Manage Techsmith SnagIt using Group Policy

I bet some of your users use Snagit every day.

That means it has to work as expected, or else productivity comes to a screeching halt as they relentlessly peruse the application settings within Snagit, or even worse, call the helpdesk for assistance.

That’s where PolicyPak comes in.  We enforce and lock down the optimum settings values that you, the administrator, want them to have.  PolicyPak sets and enforces expectations for your users’ applications, so that they get the same experience, every time they launch it.

Ensure your Snagit settings are dictated and ensured using PolicyPak.  Get those settings out there using Group Policy, SCCM or your own management tool.

Check out this video to see how it’s done using Group Policy:

Our PolicyPak software snaps-in to the Group Policy Editor and gives you a GUI interface which mimics the interface of Snagit itself.  PolicyPak can help you manage updates for this application by unchecking “Enable automated update checking.”  Then lock your users out of this setting completely by right clicking on this setting and selecting “Disable corresponding control in target application.”
Even though you are a loyal Snagit customer, you as a network administrator certainly don’t want to open up a vulnerability to your network by complying with their Improvement program.  Make sure that “No, thank you” is always selected and then disable this entire tab by right clicking on the tab itself and selecting “Disable whole tab in target application.”
And when you deliver and lock down these settings using PolicyPak, your users will see this below.  Notice that both the “Enable automated update checking” setting is disabled as well as the Improve Snagit tab.
Your users naturally expect the Snagit Editor to open and become the active window as soon as a screen shot is taken, so give your users what they want.  Always ensure that “Make Editor the active window on capture” is always checked.  Then prevent registry savvy users from altering this setting within the registry itself by locking this setting all the way into the registry itself with PolicyPak’s signature feature, ACL Lockdown.  Simply right click on any setting and select “Perform ACL Lockdown.”
Speaking of the Snagit Editor, we support that too.  Make sure that “Automatically save new image and text captures in the library” is always checked so that users don’t have to worry about manually saving their captures. Then disable this setting as well.

So that users see this.

With PolicyPak, you’re the one in control.

Besides, once you’re using PolicyPak to manage Snagit, you’ll also get to manage all your other enterprise desktop applications the same way: Flash, WinZip, Firefox, and any custom applications you have. They’re 100% included – absolutely free.

It’s all included when you’re a PolicyPak Professional customer.

PolicyPak was designed by Group Policy MVP Jeremy Moskowitz – who “wrote the book” on Group Policy, runs GPanswers.com, and lives and breathes Group Policy and enterprise software deployments and desktop lockdown.

When you’re ready to get serious about managing Snagit, PolicyPak is ready for you.
