PolicyPak for IDM UltraEdit

It isn’t Microsoft Word, it’s a commercial text editor. It may not be as ubiquitous as Microsoft Word within your organization, but it’s highly important to the user that is editing file.

Make sure those users spend their time validating HTML files, not calling the helpdesk about why UltraEdit isn’t working like it used too since they “accidently” made a setting configuration change.

That’s where PolicyPak comes in. We lock down application settings so your users can’t meddle with them. PolicyPak delivers, enforces, remediates and locks down your users’ applications, including UltraEdit, so that they get the same experience, every time they launch it.

Ensure your UltraEdit settings are dictated and ensured using PolicyPak. Get those settings out there using Group Policy, SCCM or your own management tool. Our PolicyPak software snaps-in to the Group Policy Editor and gives you the same user interface of UltraEdit itself. You never want your users calling the helpdesk to ask your techs to pull out a miracle and find the file they failed to save. Make sure that all of the files they edit with this application are saved by checking “On automatic save” and configure 5 “Maximum number of backups.”

Like so many of the applications we support at PolicyPak, network administrators want to deny ordinary users the ability to update applications. You can do this for UltraEdit by making sure that “Automatically check for updates” is always unchecked. Then make sure that “ESC exits full screen mode” is checked if that’s what your users expect. Then make sure that your users can’t alter either of these settings by right clicking on each setting and selecting “Disable Corresponding Control in Target Application.”

Because as you can see, users can’t modify a setting they can’t access.

You don’t want to risk a corrupted file because one user is accessing it while another user is editing it. Make sure this doesn’t happen by checking “Lock file for write while editing.” Then lock this setting down all the way to the registry itself by using PolicyPak’s unique signature feature, ACL Lockdown, which prevents even registry savvy users from altering your desired settings. Simply right click the setting and select “Perform ACL Lockdown.”

With PolicyPak, you’re the one in control.

Besides, once you’re using PolicyPak to manage UltraEdit, you’ll also get to manage all your other enterprise desktop applications the same way: Flash, Java, Firefox, Lync and any custom applications you have. They’re 100% included – absolutely free.

It’s all included when you’re a PolicyPak Professional customer.

PolicyPak was designed by Microsoft MVP, Enterprise Mobility Jeremy Moskowitz – who “wrote the book” on Group Policy, runs GPanswers.com, and lives and breathes Group Policy and enterprise software deployments and desktop lockdown.

When you’re ready to get serious about managing UltraEdit, PolicyPak is ready for you.
